Knee Replacement - Whats Involved
A knee replacement surgery is the exchange of damaged or worn sections of the knee joint with a prosthesis. ThisĀ knee replacement prosthesis may be constituted of plastic and metal parts.
The knee joint is a junction of the thigh bone and shin, which normally work together because they are covered by the articular cartilage which acts as an absorption of shocks. Damage of this cartilage can make the knee joint painful and difficult to use. A new knee joint would in this case aid mobility and help reduce pain caused by friction of the two bone endings.
Whether a total or a half knee replacement is advised is based on the condition of your Knee Joint.
